The Libya Africa Investment Portfolio (LAIP) is reviving the stalled Misrata Cement Factory, a project inactive since 2012. Key partners include the Chinese firm Sinoma-Wuhan and local agencies like the Industrial Research Centre.
Project Goals and Phasing
- Phase One: 2 million tons
of cement per year
- Phase Two: 4 million tons
of cement per year
- Purpose: Supply local
needs and export extra stock
- Current State: 32 percent complete from work done before 2012
Infrastructure and Planning
- Raw Materials: Studies show
enough local stone for 50 years.
- Power and Fuel: Talks are
underway with the General Electricity Company
of Libya and oil groups for gas and heavy fuel oil.
- Access Road: Plans include
a 10 km paved road to link the site to the main roads.
